Technical Change and Polarization of the Labor Market: Evidence for Brazil, Colombia and Mexico
We use occupations descriptions for Brazil, Colombia and Mexico, to build computer-use related tasks intensities, and link then to series of cross sections of data of each country in order to empirically assess to what extent the observed empirical regularities, and the reallocation of workers across occupations that require different tasks intensities, are consistent with the SBTC or polarization models. We find an increase of both wages and workers at the extremes of the wage or skills occupations distribution, the less routinaire/computerizabe, particularly pronounced in the period since personal computers began to be introduced in the region. This finding, along with other empirical regularities, provides support for some of the main implications of the polarization model in the cases of Colombia and Mexico.Relative Wages, Income Distribution, Technical Change.
Private management and strategic bidding behavior in electricity markets: Evidence from Colombia
In this paper I undertake a policy evaluation of the impact of the switch from public to private management of electricity generation units on their price bidding strategies. I draw on information about the bidding strategies of units in the Colombian electricity market to perform a double difference analysis. The evidence observed is coherent with theoretical behavioral predictions for profit maximizing agents facing short positions in forward contracts
Mixed Oligopoly and Market Power Mitigation: Evidence from the Colombian Wholesale Electricity Market
Using information on price bids in wholesale electricity pools and empirical techniques described in the literature on electricity markets, this study identifies the market power mitigation effect of public firms in the Colombian market. The results suggest that while private firms exercise less market power than is predicted by a profit-maximization model, there are marked differences between private and public firms in their exercise of unilateral market power. These findings support the hypothesis of the market power mitigation effect of public firms
Photospheric downward plasma motions in the quiet-Sun
We analyze spectropolarimetric data taken with the Hinode spacecraft in quiet
solar regions at the disk center. Distorted redshifted Stokes profiles are
found showing a characteristic evolution that always follows the same sequence
of phases. We have studied the statistical properties of these events using
spectropolarimetric data from Hinode/SP. We also examined the upper photosphere
and the low chromosphere using Mg i b2 and Ca ii h data from Hinode. Finally,
we have applied the SIRGAUSS inversion code to the polarimetric data in order
to infer the atmospheric stratification of the physical parameters. We have
also obtained these physical parameters taking into account dynamical terms in
the equation of motion.
The Stokes V profiles display a bump that evolves in four different time
steps, and the total process lasts 108 seconds. The Stokes I shows a strongly
bent red wing and the continuum signal exhibits a bright point inside an
intergranular lane. This bright point is correlated with a strong redshift in
the Mg i b2 line and a bright feature in Ca ii h images. The model obtained
from the inversion of the Stokes profiles is hotter than the average quiet-Sun
model, with a vertical magnetic field configuration and field strengths in the
range of kG values. It also presents a LOS velocity stratification with a
Gaussian perturbation whose center is moving to deeper layers with time.
We have examined a particular type of event that can be described as a
plasmoid of hot plasma that is moving downward from the top of the photosphere,
placed over intergranular lanes and always related to strong magnetic field
concentrations. We argue that the origin of this plasmoid could be a magnetic
reconnection that is taking place in the chromosphere.Comment: 18 pages, 14 figure
In this work, I tried to carry out a systematic review of the most important processes fusion of corporatioins in the Spanish Legal Order respect with the undoubted influence of the European Union laws wich has been having an undoubted influence on the same throughout the years, mainly from the beginning of the decade of the 90. How can systematize main elements or all of fusion corporate outline three-stage process diferentiated than would the preparatory phase towards the realization projects fusion and the balance of fusion stage in decision-making that the annual general meeting must approve the merger agreement, and the phase of embodiment in wich the aforementioned merger agreement should be given due publicity, beyond the mandatory registration

Planning manipulation movements of a dual-arm system considering obstacle removing
The paper deals with the problem of planning movements of two hand-arm robotic systems, considering the possibility of using the robot hands to remove potential obstacles in order to obtain a free access to grasp a desired object. The approach is based on a variation of a Probabilistic Road Map that does not rule out the samples implying collisions with removable objects but instead classifies them according to the collided obstacle(s), and allows the search of free paths with the indication of which objects must be removed from the work-space to make the path actually valid; we call it Probabilistic Road Map with Obstacles (PRMwO). The proposed system includes a task assignment system that distributes the task among the robots, using for that purpose a precedence graph built from the results of the PRMwO. The approach has been implemented for a real dual-arm robotic system, and some simulated and real running examples are presented in the paper. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. The Acoustics of the Choir in Spanish Cathedrals
One of the most significant enclosures in worship spaces is that of the choir. Generally,
from a historical point of view, the choir is a semi-enclosed and privileged area reserved for the
clergy, whose position and configuration gives it a private character. Regarding the generation and
transformation of ecclesial interior spaces, the choir commands a role of the first magnitude. Its shape
and location produce, on occasions, major modifications that significantly affect the acoustics of these
indoor spaces. In the case of Spanish cathedrals, whose design responds to the so-called “Spanish
type”, the central position of the choir, enclosed by high stonework walls on three of its sides and
with numerous wooden stalls inside, breaks up the space in the main nave, thereby generating other
new spaces, such as the trascoro. The aim of this work was to analyse the acoustic evolution of the
choir as one of the main elements that configure the sound space of Spanish cathedrals. By means of
in situ measurements and simulation models, the main acoustic parameters were evaluated, both
in their current state and in their original configurations that have since disappeared. This analysis
enabled the various acoustic conditions existing between the choir itself and the area of the faithful
to be verified, and the significant improvement of the acoustic quality in the choir space to become
apparent. The effect on the acoustic parameters is highly significant, with slight differences in the
choir, where the values are appropriate for Gregorian chants, and suitable intelligibility of sung text.
High values are also obtained in the area of the faithful, which lacked specific acoustic requirements
at the time of construction
